Cranberry Classic Tournament November 25-27, 2006
This weekend was the
finale of our U19/16 season. It was one of the few times we
would have all of our players on the ice. However,
tournament rules did not allow Barbie and Heather to suit up
due to age restrictions. Joining us for the weekend was
Emily White. While these players all look ahead to their
high school or prep school season, it was a final weekend to
play as a team and to see what these players were capable
of.
Our first game vs. CC Waves
Friday morning, got off to a slow start with the game
suddenly changing to a 7-1 rout. We had the scorer's touch
as almost everything we shot went in the net.
Next, against Charles River, an
evenly matched game with an astounding 16 penalty calls. We
felt as if we had incurred the wrath of the referees, but
the scoresheet showed an even break on the calls. However,
the penalties did hurt the team and we went down 3-2 in a
close one.
The tournament was in many ways
like our season. - lots of curve balls and challenges, much
of it not known until just before show time. Due to a family
obligation, we would not have Kaighla Ridge until game three
in Dennis. As game time approached, the plan of getting from
relatives to the game unraveled. Both the player's stick and
skates did not make it to the rink. A stick was easy, but
rental skates would be tough. This team played a close 1-0
game with a strong Polar Bears club with our best center
converted to a defenseman. Only a terrific shot by a Bears
forward separated winner from loser in this one. It was the
team's best effort yet. We lost Courtney Boli in this
contest as her ankle folded during a quick change of
direction. She will heal soon after staying off this bad
sprain.
Our final game Saturday
afternoon paired us against the Long Island Waves. The plan
was to stay out of the penalty box, skate hard, play as a
team and enjoy our final game. This was without a doubt the
fastest game skated by this Pride team all year. The pace of
the game never let up. We may have gone down in a 5-2 loss,
but we accomplished all of our pre-game objectives. Every
player returned to the dressing room leaving absolutely
nothing on the ice. We played as a team and held our heads
high as we left the ice.
As coaches, we hope to impart
the lessons of hockey, hoping that these lessons broaden out
to the lessons and challenges of life. I was proud to see
this group overcome some adverse conditions, play as a unit,
work hard and look out for one another. We saw players step
up and play better than they ever have, and accept the
challenges that the game presents. We went out on a high
note.
Good luck to all Pride players
in their season ahead.

Comments:
Always a close, tough game against a team that gets
under our skin. This required Pride players to gel
together as a team. Kaighla Ridge has been a real team
leader this weekend. Michaela Powers lead a strong
defensive effort against a good team. Another standout
performance by goalies Hesek and Oliver. Final Pride
game for Barbie Schouten and Heather Berkley. We will
miss them.

In our final games of the regular season, this team is
playing as a unit. Lots of unselfish play, heads up with
good passing. Strong third period. We won the game

November 5, 2006 vs. Barrignton, RI (Regular

Coach: Mike Powers
Team: U16/19
Game Date: 11/5/06
Opposing Team: Barrington R.I.
Game Location: Home
PRIDE Goals: 3

Comments:
A tough, physical game. The Falmouth girls really
worked hard to pull this one out. This was our second
test against Barrington and again it was a very tough game.
The girls fell behind early, but came right back to even the
score and eventually take this one away from the R.I. girls.
October 28. 2006 vs. Charles River (Parity Round Game 3)
Coach: Mike Powers

Opposing Team: Charles River
Game Location: Away
PRIDE Goals: 4

Comments:
A very sloppy ice surface didn't stop the Falmouth girls
from pulling out a win in Quincy. A game that they had in
control slipped away late, but the girls rallied to put this
one away with time running out in the third period.

Comments:
The Falmouth girls took a step backwards in this game.
They were lucky to get out with a tie. A lot of mistakes and
missed opportunities. I thought this team was ready to take
the next step, but no, we go back to work wed. night, get
refocused on just basic hockey, and see if we can regroup
before the next test.
October 8, 2006 vs.
RI Panthers (Parity Round Game 2)
Coach: Mike Powers
Team: U16/19
Game Date: 10/08/06
Opposing Team: R.I. Panthers
Game Location: Home
PRIDE Goals: 9
Goals Against: 0
Comments:
Not a real test for this squad, We totally dominated from
start to finish. We moved our forwards to D and D up
front, and tried to not run up the score any more. The girls
are starting to get it, so we'll play'em as they come.

Pretty good overall effort. Oliver was strong in net.
Our defense played well. Our forwards skated hard
andmoved the puck well. We also got some help from 2 younger
girls (White and Callahan). A good start to the season.
