Comments:

Cape Cod U12 bragging rights were on the line today as the Cape Cod Waves came to town for our final regular season game. We have played three times this year and won two but this game would determine Cape superiority. The Falmouth girls rose to the challenge and played one of their most spirited games of the season winning 7-2, putting the Waves in the rear view mirror and claiming top Cape team. The talk today was about Mary Negri who put on an offensive show with two goals and three assists for five total points. Mary just about tripled her offensive output on the season in one game and thus takes home the number one star. Next in line was Rachel who played defense today in preparation of the coming playoff tournament. Rachel was at her best and was a tremendous factor in today' game and earns the second star. The third star goes to the Habernator (goal and two assists) who made an impact all over the ice and after a failed breakaway attempt listened to the coach and shot low stick side on her next two rushes both resulting in goals (the first hit the post and Mary got the rebound, the second a goal). Stars could have gone to so many others, starting with the defense were Hannah’s tenacity (two assists), Callan’s physical play and Kendall’s (two goals, one assist) dominance were all on display. The forwards were buzzing as Lulu(one assist) had a nice set up on Kelly’s goal and Alex moved (one assist) the puck well. Izzy forechecked well playing center for the first time, Dylan had a nice goal and the Margaret and Elizabeth played well in their last game. Maddie S was once again our rock and came up big when we needed her. Jamie was away today. This was a great way to end the regular season and go into the playoffs on a high note.

Comments:
Overall a pretty good effort by the team today. Got of to a 5-0 lead
after the first period which included a nice goal by Dylan from a perfect
position in the slot. Jamie also played very well, a nice goal and several
strong shots and good passes. We worked on passing in the second period, which
included a nice 4 pass breakout play that almost resulted in a goal. The Habernator
completed her Hat-Trick in the third, which included some strong play from Kelly
and Elizabeth. Kind of a boring day for our goalie!! Izzie continued her penalty
streak...Overall the girls showed great sportsmanship!!

Second Star Accomplishment: Outstanding Goaltending
Third Star: Maddie Haberl
Third Star Accomplishment: Overall Outstanding

Comments:

The Vineyard came to play with a much improved goalie and some solid players.
The age/size difference was clearly a factor as we struggled to really keep up
a consistent attack. Callan gets the top star today as she played some great hockey
for us. She consistently took the puck away from traffic and found open teammmates.
The Birthday girl was throwing her weight around as well and would not be intimidated
by the older girls. Maddie Scavotto was our next star as she was huge all game long.
The Vineyard girls could really shoot and Maddie was there for all of them and kept us
in the game. The Habernator was our third star as she was all over the ice and made several
nice plays that almost resulted in goals. Lulu would get our only goal today on a nice pass
from Jamie. We made a push at the end as Hannah would carry the puck out of our zone and
threw a long pass out to Lulu who would go in for a breakaway but the Vineyard goalie
came up big. Rachel also had a nice game for us as she continues to work hard and improve.

Comments:

Loads of good stuff to go around today. We might not have won the game but many players definitely brought their best. Starting with Lulu who played center today and carried the play when she was on the ice. Lulu was everywhere and although she didn’t score, had a major impact on the game and today was her best effort of the year. Jamie was put back on defense today and showed that she can play anywhere. She played great in our defensive zone, aggressively on the blue line and got some strong shots from the point. Margaret brought her A game and was extremely active and showed that defense is definitely her position, at least for now. The Palmers must have gotten their rest this week as Elizabeth also was at the top of her game. On many dump ins Elizabeth was the lead forechecker and showed a great effort today. Kelly could have earned a star as she played a great game and had our only goal on an assist from Lulu. Izzy had perhaps her best game today as she forechecked well had a few shots on net and backchecked well, even running down a defender and holding her off until help came. Kendall playing center for the first time and not feeling that well had a big game and had several scoring chances. Dylan had several nice plays in the offensive zone and some nice passes in neutral ice. Alex and Mary chipped in with some nice plays and worked hard. Hannah and Callan helped out on the defensive end and set up some nice breakouts. Maddie must have stopped about 8 breakaways to keep us in the game. She was very clean with her rebounds and tied up everything that came her way.   This was a very entertaining game with both teams playing well and both goaltenders coming up big.

> We did not play our best yesterday but probably well enough to win on most days. The Walpole goalie stood on her head and let nothing by her. We gave up two break away goals and an empty netter in this game. We outshot them and had the edge in play but we just didn't have the scoring touch. The Habernator gets the top star for leading the way physically and skating her tail off. Rachel gets the second star for another good effort and Elizabeth gets the third star as she had some good energy and made some nice plays.

> When the girls got word that their star goalie Maddie Scavotto was home sick the girls seemed a bit concerned. Haley stepped up from the U10’s and quickly showed them that they should “fear not”. She came through during the most critical times with some major saves, especially in the third period as the girls where holding on for a nice 4-2 win. Great job Haley and thank you! The team work continues to get better and better as the girls are picking their heads up and looking for each other. The defense had some outstanding D to D passing and all four blueliners used each other to set up the offense. Jamie kept up her scoring as she netted two and the coach was ready to throw his hat on the ice but the Rebels defense would spoil the hat trick bid. Jamie is becoming the master at the one-timers and is developing a very quick release. The Habernator would have one of the plays of the day as she stole the puck, turned and put a beautiful pass on Jamies stick who converted for her second goal. Alex would have one of her best games and definitely earned one of the game stars as she worked hard all game, nearly had a goal and had an assist on Lulu’s goal. Kelly would put on a stickhandling clinic today, and had several unselfish plays. Elizabeth did a great job today especially holding off defenders on the offensive zone faceoffs. This gave our defense time to get off their shots from the point. Rachel had another nice game, Izzy nearly scored and kept her penalty streak going and Dylan would have a nice goal. Kendall, Hannah and Callan all had nice games but it was Margaret that played above herself today to earn the second star. Margaret has stepped in to play defense in the past couple weeks and has shown that she is a quick study. She is playing aggressively, passing the puck well and carrying the puck confidently. This was a solid win against another Walpole team that we had not beaten before. Mary was missed today as she was away.

Comments:

The one thing you can always count on from these U12 girls from Falmouth is that they make it exciting every time they take the ice. Today was no different as Lulu would get the game winner with 1:35 left on the clock with the assist going to Kelly. Walpole would pull their goalie but this time it was us holding on for the win. Kendall again was the igniter and the top star today as she got us going in the first period on a beautiful end to end rush. She was all over the ice doing whatever her team needed on this day. Lulu gets the second star as she continued her scoring streak with two more goals and broke up several plays with some great back checking. Hannah gets the third star with another purple faced effort and one of the plays of the game as she dove to deflect a shot labeled for the net. This was a game the girls and coaches really wanted as we have traveled up to Walpole numerous times only to come home with several disappointing losses. Kelly wanted no part of any loss today as she was all over the ice and had several scoring chances. Callan controlled her end of the ice and played a nice physical game. Mary and Margaret did a great job defensively and both made good decisions. Alex had several nice passes, her best was a pass were she took the puck out of the corner and smartly dished out to the point where we got a solid shot. Dylan had her game face on and created a couple opportunities for herself and Izzy had several scoring chances and added to her team lead in penalties. Elizabeth played tough and moved the puck well, especially to the Habernator who was all over the ice once again. Jamie came with some energy today and was on the ice for two of our goals and Rachel was carrying the play when she was on the ice. Maddie held down the fort in net especially in the third when Walpole had some momentum. We had the lead twice in the game only to give it away but our girls just kept going after it until we finally put it away late. This was a total team effort as the girls really moved the puck well, worked extremely hard and even started to show glimpses of physical play.

January 12, 2008 vs. Duxbury U12A

Second Star: Kelly Ferriera
Second Star Accomplishment: Outstanding Offensive Game
Third Star: Rachel Wallman

Comments:

A strong Duxbury team visited Falmouth for a non league affair and the girls treated us to a very entertaining game. The Dragons are a solid team in the strong South Shore Conference League and will be in our division up at Waterville. This was a good test for our girls and they showed that they can play with anyone and once again made it exciting for everyone in attendance. Our girls really came out flying and penned Duxbury in their zone early due to some great fore checking and aggressive blue line play from the defense. Elizabeth Palmer got us going early as she out muscled them on boards, took the puck and made a perfect pass to Jamie in the slot who one timed it home for the first goal. Duxbury would get on the board next on a goal that barely would cross the line as we just couldn’t get a handle on it. They would take the lead on a shot from the point that Maddie was screened on and went up by two as our defense both fell at the same time to allow them to go in alone. Kelly would get us back in the game in the third on a great individual effort. She fore checked hard into the corner stole the puck and made a beauty of a pass to Lulu all alone in front who then put the puck home to bring us to with in one. We then carried the play for the next several minutes and nearly tied the game on several occasions. As we were controlling play a Duxbury forward somehow broke free and finished a nice breakaway. Our girls did not let down as we pulled the goalie with two minutes left and Kelly got us to within one again. With 52 seconds left we pulled the goalie again and had everyone on the edge of their seats as we created several more chances but Duxbury would hold us off. On this day Hannah gets the number one star as she controlled our defensive zone, led the breakout, added some offense and just worked herself purple. Kelly gets the second star as she almost single-handedly got us back in the game with a great third period. The third star goes to Rachel who worked her but off on every shift and is really getting confident with the puck. Dylan and the Habernator could have received stars today as they really are leading the way physically. Kendall continued her “mean” streak and Callan and Mary played the offensive blue line great keeping Duxbury penned in their zone for minutes at a time. Margaret played a great game back on defense, Alex made some nice passes and Izzy definitely made her presence known. Let’s hope that we meet up with Duxbury up in the tournament on a Sunday afternoon showdown.

Comments:

I hope nobody gets carried away with this victory, unless of course you are in the Scavotto family. This game showed how important a great goalie is to a team. Without Maddie today we didn’t stand a chance, that is why she gets all three stars today. After a solid first period we seemed to lose steam and the Waves took control of the game in the second and third. Maddie was there for every defensive zone lapse and every breakaway, stopping everything that was thrown her way. This was clearly Maddie's best game yet and she now has only given up 1 goal in the past three games, WOW! Lulu again led the team offensively with two goals on two fantastic individual efforts. She was all over the ice making up for several of her teammate’s mistakes. Defensively Hannah had her energy and gave it her all breaking up several plays and leading the breakout. Callan, Mary and Kendall chipped in on the defensive end with some nice plays and should be credited with some help with this shutout. Rachel scored the third goal on a dump in that the goalie misplayed and the remaining forwards had a few good moments. Overall though we were flat and we are all thankful for Maddie today. Everyone needs to prepare better so we have more energy and can put forth our best effort. We of course will take the W as it makes up for a couple games were the opposing goalie stole a game or two from us.

Comments:

There were many superlatives to go around today. Today’s top star today was Lulu who led the team today with three goals and an assist. She got us going on the first shift of the game with a nice goal assisted by Jamie. Lulu then got crunched against the boards on a scary check but bounced right back up and scored a power play goal on a feed from Kelly. She would finish off her hat trick on a great set up from Hannah late in the second and really put this game away. Jamie also came to play today which has been a reoccurring theme lately. She showed some speed as Kendall sent her in alone and scored on the breakaway and generally was all over the ice. Callan was another who stepped up her game and controlled the puck in our zone and dished off to her teammates to set the team in motion. Kelly was a bit under the weather but it didn’t show as she played a solid game. Dylan had a nice game and positive things seemed to happen every time she touched the puck. Rachel had an active game and had a nice individual effort where she took the puck from the corner deked a player and the goalie to give herself an open net but just couldn’t finish. Izzy had the Jay Miller hat trick with three penalties, but was very active in the offensive zone. Mary again played well and got her first goal of the year when the defense moved to forward in the third. Hannah gave us energy, made several nice defensive plays and finished the game with a goal and two assists. Kendall scored two goals and then worked hard in the third trying to get her teammates some goals. Alex got her body on people and was involved in some nice plays and Maddie Scavotto said it was the most boring game as she did not face a meaningful shot. Maddie Haberl and the Palmers were away today. Nice effort all around!

December 23, 2007 vs. Burrillville U12

Coach: Scott Ghelfi
Team: U12
Game Date: 12/23/07
Opposing Team: Burrillville U12

PRIDE Goals: 3
Goals Against: 1
First Star: Kendall Stouffer
First Star Accomplishment: Overall Outstanding Game
Second Star: Lulu Coughlin
Second Star Accomplishment: Overall Outstanding Game
Third Star: Mary Negri
Third Star Accomplishment: Outstanding Defensive

Comments:

The girls were really pushed this week in practice and were challenged to get more from themselves. They definately paid attention because they responded with a nice effort against a very physical Burrillville team. There were many superlatives to go around today and they start with Kendall. She showed why she is our leader by giving us perhaps her best performance to date. Besides scoring two unassisted goals, she played outstanding defense, set up many of her teammates and was just plain "mean" out there. Next on the superlative list was Lulu. In just her third game of the year she showed why she is so important to the team by playing physical and setting up her teammates all game long. With the game in the balance in the third period Lulu carried the puck through neutral ice and into the offensive zone drew the d to her and slid a perfect pass over to Kelley who put this game away with a great shot past the helpless goalie. Mary was another who stepped up her game and was very strong holding the blue line and making great decisions. Hannah and Callan made several nice defensive plays and also helped keep the opposition penned in their zone. On the forward side Jamie again played well despite not feeling well, Izzy had several scoring chances and Alex stuck her nose in it. Dylan continues to improve and once again showed why she is going to be a great player real soon. The line of Rachel, Margaret and Elizabeth worked extremely hard and had several scoring chances. The Habernator showed once again she is not afraid of anyone is leading the way physically and our rock Maddie Scavotto held the down the fort in net. The girls gave us all a nice Christmas present with this win.

December 15, 2007 vs. Martha's Vineyard

Coach: Scott Ghelfi
Team: U12
Game Date: 12/15/07
Opposing Team: Vineyard
Game Location: Away
PRIDE Goals: 3
Goals Against: 4
First Star: Mrs. Ferreira
First Star Accomplishment: Overall Outstanding Game
Second Star: Mr. Ferreira
Second Star Accomplishment: Overall Outstanding Game

Comments:

The clear MVP of the day was our Team Mom, Mrs. Ferriera! She planned a flawless trip to the Vineyard, kept track of all the girls and their equipment and got us back on the earliest boat possible. Mr. Ferriera gets the second star as he trucked all the equipment to and from the boat.
As for the game.....After several tight games were the girls put forth their best effort, today was dissapointing. It is tough for me to come up with many positives but I will try (ok Kendall). If I had to pick a first star it would be Jamie, she seemed to be one of the few that kept her feet moving and she had a very nice goal. She got the puck in neutral ice and just turned on the jets and pulled away from the defender then beat the goalie five hole. Dylan made a nice play to break free to get a goal an open net. Callan had a nice rush and made some nice plays. I have been trying to get the girls to use their bodies and play physical and the Habernator had no problem with that and she also chipped in with a goal when we pulled the goalie. Maddie Scavotto moved up to forward for the day and did a nice job for her first game out of the net. Thanks to Casey for making the trip and playing net for us...wish the girls could have played better for you. I did see some nice passing and the girls were looking for each other but you must pass and skate, not pass and stand around. Despite it all the girls had a great day because they ran around the boat and had fun!

December 9, 2007 vs. Providence Jr. Bears

Coach: Scott Ghelfi
Team: U12
Game Date: 12/9/07
Opposing Team: Providence
Game Location: Home
PRIDE Goals: 3
Goals Against: 4
First Star: Maddie Scavotto
First Star Accomplishment: Outstanding Goaltending
Second Star: Kelley Ferreira
Second Star  Accomplishment: Outstanding Offensive Game
Third Star: Alex Scudder
Third Star Accomplishment: Outstanding Offensive Game

Comments:
Today was, without a doubt, the Madison Scavotto show. Without Maddie we don't have a prayer, but she held off several flurries and gave us a chance to almost pull off a remarkable comeback.  The Bears showed up much improved from the last time we played them and they took it to us for much of the game. We had our moments but we trailed 3-0 in the third period. With many of the girls hanging their heads Kelly got us going with a nice shot from the slot. This gave us some energy and right off the face off Hannah got the puck deep in the zone and Kelly finished off another nice play to bring us within 1. Once again off the face off Hannah, Jamie and Kelly almost completed the comeback in one shift but the Birthday girl didn't have the energy to complete the hat trick. With the momentum Izzy and the Habernator carried the play and Alex was ready for the shot in the slot and a nice goal to tie the game. The Bears would get a go ahead goal on a sloppy change up but the girls kept pushing. Rachel, Margaret, Mary, Dylan and Callan all helped give us a few more chances. With the goalie pulled and the clock ticking away, Kendall had one more rush and with a second left broke in alone but the Bears goalie made the save. Elizabeth was away for the day and LuLu is still out with her injury.

First Star: Kendall Stouffer
First Star Accomplishment: Overall Outstanding Game
Second Star: Elizabeth Palmer
Second Star Accomplishment: Exceptional Playmaking
Third Star: Callan Small
Third Star Accomplishment: Outstanding Defensive

Comments:

Looks like we need to work on our shooting and taking advantage of scoring opportuntities. Once again we thoroughly outplayed an opponent and came up on the short end of the score. We dominated in every facet of the game except the scoreboard. Maddie saved 3 of 4 breakaways to keep us in the game but that is all the shots they got. Kelly had several scoring chances that the goalie turned away, Jamie kept up her nice playmaking and Alex chipped in with some nice passing. Rachel had several chances and was buzzing all over the ice. Margaret and Elizabeth were passing the puck all over the place, Elizabeth at one point had a nice rush and nearly put us on the scoreboard. The Habernator pushed and shoved her way to some scoring opportunities and forechecked to give Izzy and Dylan some chances. The defense once again stepped up and kept the pressure on in the offensive zone. Mary played another smart game despite being a game time arrival. Hannah made up for some early mistakes and nearly tied the game in the third with a nice rush. Callan stepped up her game today and made several nice plays to keep the puck in the zone. Kendall played her heart out and was determined to get us going offensively. From the defensive position she tried to create offense for the team when ever she had the chance and was back on D before Walpole could even get it out of the zone. With a minute plus left on the clock we pulled the goalie and had every one the edge of their seats. With six attackers the girls gave it all they had and nearly pulled it off. Several shots had to be turned away by the Walpole goalie who stole the show in the end. Once again LuLu was missed, looks like we have to wait a few more weeks to get that scoring punch back. Everyone work on their shooting and stickhandling at home and it will help the team.

Comments:

We just ran into a very good goalie. We outshot, outhustled, outpassed, and clearly outplayed them. We beat them in every aspect of the game except on the scoreboard. The girls are really learning how to work hard and get the most of themselves. Right up until the end they gave it all they had. Kendall got us going with our only goal on a nice end to end rush. Mary Negri played another solid game at defense and just continues to do everything right. Callan played another smart game and Hannah seemed to take her game to a new level and kept the team energized with her effort. Jamie had her best game...now that soccer is over she can focus on hockey and it is showing. She was very productive in the corners winning all the battles and setting up her linemates on several occasions. Kelly had another strong game and is really working hard and having a major impact on the games. Alex once again had a scoring chance and is improving week to week. The line of Maddie, Izzy and Dylan had several scoring chances as a result of some strong forechecking. There was some very nice passing with the line of Rachel, Margaret and Elizabeth that resulted in some nice shots on goal. Rachel also had some nice defensive plays as well. Maddie was once again there for us when we needed her and was left out to dry on the two breakaway goals.

Comments:

This was a tough game to play as the Vineyard had to play some of the game without their goaltender who was having equipment problems. Even so the girls had a nice team effort with some very nice unselfish play. Lulu got us going again with a goal on her first shift. Kendall and Rachel each scored empty netters, then kelly scored on a nice finish off a breakaway when the goalie returned. Dylan Innis who played perhaps her best game to date made some nice passes but it was her goal that will go on todays highlight film. Dylan stickhandled through traffic and slid a nice shot in the lower corner to put this game well in hand. Maddie Haberl notched another goal in the 2nd period before we put the defense up to forward to finish out the game. Hannah showed she has some wheels and broke free from their defense and scored on a breakaway and then Margaret finished the scoring with a nice goal. Izzy came close today before she had to leave the game with an injury and Alex once again came close to lighting the lamp. Callan had a nice end to end rush early in the game then finished the game nicely at forward. Mary Negri once again played a strong game at defense alongside Kendell. Maddie Scavotto stayed focused despite the lack of action. Jamie and Elizabeth missed the game with family events.

Second Star Accomplishment: Outstanding Offensive Game
Third Star: Kendall Stouffer

Comments:

Opened up our season with a nice solid 3-0 win over the Crush. We carried the play throughout the game but our outstanding goalie Madison Scavotto was their for us when we did have a lapse or two. On defense Mary Negri and Kendell Stouffer moved the puck well and Hannah Ghelfi and Callan Small played the blue line aggressively keeping the opposition penned in their end most of the game. The forwards forechecked well and with the return of Lulu Coughlin, who scored in the first period of her first game, we have another real scoring threat. Rachel Walman played well in her first game at center, and worked nicely with the Palmers twins (Margaret and Elizabeth). Kelly Ferreira deserved a goal or two but some strong goaltending kept her off todays scoreboard. Alexandria Scudder was close to putting one home but contributed with a few nice passes. Maddie Haberl led the day with two goals and some dominant forechecking. Izzy Phares and Dylan Innis also forechecked well as did Jamie Giancola who did an exceptional job at both forward and defense.
