FALMOUTH
PRIDE GIRLS HOCKEY CLUB OFF TO A WELL-PLAYED
2005-06 SEASON START
The three teams of the Falmouth PRIDE Girls Hockey Club played
some great hockey at Falmouth Ice Arena on the weekend of
September 24 and 25 in their first games of the 2005/2006 hockey
season.
The weekend began with the
PRIDE U14 team, coached by Amy Mulvey, Robb Beaton and Tim
Callahan, playing a fast-paced game against the Providence
Bears. Saturday’s game proved to be a challenge for the PRIDE
U14s, with the Bears getting 2 goals past PRIDE goalie Melissa
Romiza after 2 periods. The PRIDE U14s stepped it up in the
third period with an outstanding team effort that brought on a
goal for the PRIDE by Amber Morse with 4 seconds left on the
clock for a final score of 2 to 1 in favor of the Bears. The
PRIDE U14s were ready to play from the first face off in
Sunday’s match against Walpole. In a well-played game, with
outstanding playmaking by the PRIDE’s Shay Callahan, the PRIDE
U14s took charge to end the second period with a 2 to 1 lead.
The PRIDE U14s finished the game with a 4 to 1 win over Walpole,
with two goals a piece for Virgynia Muma and Shay Callahan, 2
assists for Shay Callahan, and one assist each for Jessie Mulvey
and Amber Morse.
The PRIDE U12 team, coached
by Kabraul Tasha, Greg Parkinson, Alicia Good and Mike Giancola,
played a terrific game Saturday against the Cape Cod Waves, with
Casey Eustis in net for the PRIDE. Falmouth’s Taylor Kitts
came through with a hattrick in this game, along with 2 goals
from her teammate, Devon Seibt. The game was end to end
action and ended in a 6 to 5 win for the Waves, with an
exceptional effort by both teams. The PRIDE U12s showed a
tremendous amount of potential for a young team and were all
smiles after an enjoyable match with the Waves.
A goal by Falmouth’s Lauren
Hanney with 1 second left on the clock brought the house down at
the Sunday morning match up of the PRIDE U19/16 team against the
Nighthawks. This was a hard-fought game for the PRIDE U19/16s
and Falmouth goalie Mariama Hesek played an outstanding game in
net. With the Nighthawks ahead 1 to 0 in the third period, this
PRIDE team refused to give up the win. The Falmouth offense
pummeled the Nighthawks goliae with shots and the PRIDE defense
led by exceptional defensive play of Kara Eaton and Erica
Schouten held off the Nighthawks. With 30 seconds left in the
game, Falmouth coaches Mike Powers, Chris Dyer and Scott
Eustis, pulled goalie Hesek to give Falmouth the player
advantage on the face off in the Nighthawks zone. The PRIDE
U19/16s played with all they had to the last second with Hanney
coming through with the PRIDE goal after a scramble in front of
the Nighthawks net to end the game with a 1 to 1 tie.
The weekend exhibition games
proved to be an all-round terrific effort for the Falmouth girls
and a great start to this year’s hockey season. The Falmouth
PRIDE has 3 teams participating in the Bay State Girls Hockey
League, as well as a newly formed 10& under house team for
beginners between the ages of 6 to 10. Limited space is still
available in the house team program and further information on
the house program or the Falmouth PRIDE can be found at

FALMOUTH PRIDE ENDS 2004/2005 SEASON WITH ITS AWARDS BANQUET ON
APRIL 13TH
The Falmouth Girls Hockey Club “PRIDE” completed its 2004/2005
ice hockey season with its annual awards banquet held on April
13th at the Sea Crest Resort. Girls from two 12 & under teams
and two 16 & under teams were recognized for sportsmanship,
skills, player improvement, and overall hard work and dedication
to the game over the course of the 2004/2005 ice hockey season.
Regular season play began in October, 2004 for the PRIDE and the
season brought many victories and challenges for PRIDE teams in
their respective divisions. The Club’s 12 & under Blue team
played within a relatively new 12 and under developmental
division that was formed by the Bay State Girls Hockey League.
The girls playing in this division were primarily 8, 9 and 10
year olds, with some first year players in the 11 and 12-year
age group. The Pride 12 & under Blue team players worked very
hard over the season to improve their skills and had some great
matches with other teams within the Bay State League. The PRIDE
12 & under Red team finished regular season play in first place
in their division and played to the League semi-final
championship, losing a tough match to a Burriville, Rhode
Island, team by one goal. The 12 & under Red team was a
concentrated group of mainly 11 and 12 year old girls with
hockey experience, allowing them to play with teammates of
similar ability and skill level. The 12 & under Red team also
finished its season by placing first in the New Hampshire Lady
Monarch’s tournament in New Hampshire, and took home the
tournament gold trophy. The PRIDE 16 & under teams faced tough
competition in their higher age group divisions within the Bay
State League and showed a lot of dedication and improvement from
September to the end of the season. Many of the PRIDE 16 &
under players also played for the Falmouth High School Girls’
Varsity team and were instrumental in the success of the
Clippers first varsity season.
The PRIDE
players practice at least once a week on a regular basis, with
extra ice sessions offered as much as possible, and players play
one to two games per week. The League policy of allowing players
to play on higher age group teams allows for girls to have the
benefit of additional game time each week. The Club holds group
skills sessions for all teams throughout the season, as well as
inter-Club scrimmages and an annual family and coaches vs.
players game. The Club also runs an annual Summer Skills
Clinic, which is open to PRIDE players as well as girls from
other Clubs. This year’s Summer Skills Clinic will run from July
10th to August 29th on Sunday evenings at Falmouth Ice Arena.
The Summer Skills Clinic is an excellent opportunity for
returning players to develop and improve skills and for new
players to the game to give ice hockey a try. During these
sessions, players new to hockey will learn the basics of
skating, stick handling, shooting and passing. Participants are
divided into groups and skating sessions depending on age and
ability. The Club encourages college hockey players, including
players from Providence College, Boston College and Brown
University, to assist with clinic instruction along with PRIDE
coaches.
Girls’
hockey has proven to be very popular in Falmouth with the growth
of the Falmouth PRIDE! The Club is looking to form 8 & under and
10 & under teams next season as more girls of this age group are
looking to play ice hockey. The 16/18 & under age will play a
half-season next season until Thanksgiving, to allow PRIDE
players to continue their hockey season with the Falmouth High
School Girls’ Varsity team or prep school teams. Further
information on the Club summer clinic and upcoming season can be
found on the Club’s website at
www.falmouthpride.com,
or by contacting Laura Moynihan at
